The pandemic has people from all walks of life changing up their original wedding plans, and oftentimes that means ditching their ideas for a big ceremony and opting for remote, picturesque elopements instead. If this sounds like you, odds are you’re considering just about every destination on the planet. (Which, hi, can be kinda overwhelming!)
Need some help deciding where to say ‘I do’? Great. Because I’m here to help, and I definitely want you to put the gorgeous Horseshoe Bend, Arizona on your list. If you’re curious about what eloping in Horseshoe Bend, Arizona has to offer, keep reading for all the important details. You’re welcome!
Talk about breathtaking views. Horseshoe Bend has incredible scenery, and you’ll find yourself getting married overlooking a massive canyon with a river carving through it. Before and after the ceremony, there’s plenty of opportunities for hiking, jeeping, exploring Lake Powell or the canyon’s alcoves, and so much more.
In short, you won’t wanna miss out on such epic scenery. It’ll require a quick flatland hike to get to the iconic location (about a mile of walking). That said, the area is usually crowded since it’s a public space.
The best way to avoid crowds (or at least keep it to a minimum) is to plan your visit around sunrise. Not many people want to wake up at the crack of dawn, but if you do the reward is soso worth it.
Yes! To get married at Horseshoe Bend (and anywhere with the Glen Canyon Recreation Area), you’ll need to secure a special use permit so that you have access to all parts of the canyon. This may seem complicated, but don’t worry, it’s a super easy online process that I can help you navigate. The only thing you’ll need to do is prepare to pay for a roughly one hundred-dollar application fee.
Since Horseshoe Bend is, well, in the desert, you’ll want to make sure you’re wearing the proper outfits so that you’re most comfortable for your ~big day~. Consider opting for Chacos, cute sneakers, or sandals under your dress (if you’re wearing one). This will make it easier to walk around the canyon, lake, and desert with ease (and most importantly, comfort!)
Also consider that you’ll want to wear dirt-friendly clothing for this trip. When picking your dress, suit, and accessories, make sure you’re okay with getting them a lil dusty as we walk around. You’ll want to make sure that your dress and suit situations are mobile, breathable and unrestricting.
If you’re going to elope somewhere epic like Horseshoe Bend, you can’t go wrong with hiring a videographer to help you re-live the day
Horseshoe Bend is right on the Arizona/Utah border, so it’s close to so many amazing areas to explore:
